Afro Continental Airways was formed by Jack Malloch of Air Trans Africa/Affretair based at Salisbury Airport to operate the weekly scheduled route to Windhoek, South West Africa (now Namibia). The service did not last long, this Constellation was in excellent condition, the interior showed how well airline passengers travelled in the 1950s, a real occasion.
From the book 'Shadows', see review, this aircraft was used during the Biafra airlift throughout that War. Sadly, just a few years later, mid 1970s, the aircraft was retired, it was donated and flown to Charles Prince Airport, Salisbury to be used as a club house, Mashonaland Flying Club?, it soon succumbed to the scrap man's axe having been neglected. Can anyone remember the name of the bar located in the old Constellation parked at Charles Prince during the mid to late seventies?
