Air Trans Africa Douglas DC7F. TR-LNY

Taxying from runway 240 with lots of smoke! Note New Sarum in the background, Canberras to the left and a Douglas C47 to the right of the Rhodesian Air Force. Photo taken from the civil terminal balcony on the 7th February 1972. The aircraft did not take off, I presume that the 'Tower' warned them of the smoke, most probably caused by an oil seal in one of the turbo recovery units failing, the most common cause I gather for engine shut down on these aircraft.
