Hawker Hunter FGA9. October 1971

Passing in front of 3 Squadron dispersal at New Sarum with two Douglas C47 Dakotas on view, one being refuelled. Note the position of the Roundel, the Aden Gun pods under the fuselage. The registrations were still on the aircraft at this stage, hard to see as always, on the rear fuselage under the tail, usually painted in black, however some were left 'reversed out' in the chrome etch primer undercoat or the brown camouflage paint which tended to make them even harder to spot. Later all roundels and markings were removed, I never worked on the aircraft to be able to find the position of the id markings, I imagine inside the flaps, undercarriage (nose) and/or nose wheel door as likely locations
