South African Police/ZA Polisie Alouette 111 '39'

Seen at Kariba Airport, during August 1971. During this time, the country known as the Republic of South Africa, to the south of Rhodesia, offered limited support by sending up aircraft operated by the South African Police, rather than the South African Air Force, for operations with the local Rhodesian forces. Politically this could be explained as a 'Police Action' rather than a full scale military operation, a fine distinction, later on the South African Air Force became heavily involved, carrying out operations both within Rhodesia and the other countries where terrorist bases were located
