Aermacchi Al 60b 'Trojan' 'R3427' at Kariba Airport, August 1971.

Kariba Airport situated by Kariba Dam on the Zambezi River, was one of the main forward airfields during the 1970s. It was in this area that two CIVILIAN Vickers Viscounts were shot down by Zambian based terrorists in later years, men, women and children were either killed in the subsequent crashes or massacred at the crash site, see full details in the civil section. Note the South African Cessna 185 and Alouette 111 in the photo. It is reported that this 'Trojan' was shot down on the 14th April 1974 in the North East of Mozambique (Rushinga), both crew members were killed, Flt.Lt.B.C.Weinmann & S.Tech.R.R.Durrett.
