Aermacchi Al 60b2 'Trojan' 'R3248', previously RRAF328, outside Field Aircraft Services hangar at Salisbury Airport in February 1971.

These aircraft were with No 4 Squadron of the Rhodesian Air Force having been obtained in 1967, ten aircraft in all were acquired, another one came from South Africa in 1973. They were used as 'Spotter' aircraft, air control, casualty evacuation, on the top surface of the wing and fuselage was a large white 'T' which made it easier to see the aircraft from above when other Rhodesian Air Force aircraft were coming in to attack terrorist positions. These were noisy aircraft, some were fitted with three blade propellers instead of the two blade type in an effort to reduce the propeller tip noise, turbo charged engines to help with the altitude, some were armed with rockets but I would think that the wings/airframe were not built to withstand the stresses involved as most were unarmed. Field Aircraft Services quite often had this type in to carry out maintenance. This particular aircraft was sold off for civilian use in the early 1980s.
